Breathing Exercises: The Ultimate Stress Reliever

Ever wanted a stress reliever that is quite simple yet holds so many advantages for your body? Then, why don't you try and go for breathing exercises? Proper breathing technique clears your mind, improves immune system. It regulates blood pressure, and even improves good posture. It promotes relaxation and oxygenation.

Some breathing techniques are even known to help renew body energy and improve your respiratory system. It is also perfect for relaxation, especially if you are stagnant the whole day or have been sitting for quite some time. It is even helpful during labor and delivery because it provides a focus during contractions, interfering with pain sensory transmission. And because it's so easy and requires only a couple of minutes out of your busy day, breathing exercises can be done in-between your chores or during your 10- minute break in the office.

Here are some easy steps worth trying for:

1) When doing any breathing exercise, it is much better if eyes are close to avoid any distractions. Try moving into a serene area or room and play some relaxing or soothing music to further maximize breathing benefits.

 2) Be sure to have the proper posture. Whether you are sitting or standing comfortably, inhale through your nose deeply and imagine pure and clean air entering your body. Hold your breath for a few seconds.

 3) Next, visualize a straw in your mouth. Exhale a short burst forcefully through the small opening of the straw. Every time you puff out, just imagine all the germs, pollutants and other bad elements.

 4) You can also try breathing deeply for three times, inhaling through the nostrils and exhaling slowly through pursed lips.

 5) Do this repeatedly for at least 6 to 10 times until your lungs are completely cleansed with these short and strong puffs. With each breath, you will feel more relaxed and soothed.

To maximize these relaxing breathing exercises, you can also try sprinkling your room or your surroundings with natural soothing scents like lavender and chamomile. These aromas bring deep benefits to our overall mental and physical well-being, and are also known to have healing properties as well.
